Walnut Slices

1 cup crisco

1 cup sifted brown sugar

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp. salt

2 eggs

3 cups sifted flour

1/2 tsp. soda

1 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 tsp. vanilla (optional)

Blend Crisco, sugar and eggs. Add dry ingredients (which have been sifted together) to crisco mixture. Stir in walnuts. Blend thoroughly. Shape into two rolls, 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Roll in heavy wax paper and chill. With sharp knife cut 1/4 inch slices of chilled dough, place on greased cookie sheets. Bake in moderate oven 375* for 10 -12 minutes.
