Swedish Bars

2 1/2 cups sifted flour

1 tsp. salt

1 cup shortening

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup finely chopped nuts

1 egg

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup jam

2 Tbsp. icing sugar

Blend flour and salt. Cream shortening and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Bet until light and fluffy. Blend in flour and sat. With floured hands spread dough on lightly greased 9×13″ pan./ Press down well. bake at 350* for 15 minutes. Cool slightly. Spread on jam and sprinkle with icing sugar. Top with nuts.
