Holiday Cut-Outs (Sugar Cookies)

Cream together:

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup margarine

1/2 cup shortening

1 tsp. salt

Beat 2 eggs and add to creamed mixture.

Add 1 cup milk

1 tsp. almond extract

1 tsp. vanilla

Blend 2 tsp. baking powder into 5 cups all purpose flour and stir into creamed mixture.

Chill dough in refrigerator at least 1/2 hour or until cold enough to handle easily. Roll out to 1/8″ thick on well floured pastry cloth. Use any holiday cookie cutters. Brush with a mixture of beaten eggs and 2 Tbsp. milk and sprinkle with colored sugar, coconut, chocolate sprinkles, ground nuts, etc. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 350* for 12 – 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Note: Cookies may also be baked plain and decorated with colored icing after sufficiently cooled.
