Cherry Almond Slice

1 1/2 cupo flour

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 tsp. salt

Rub together – bake 10 minutes

2 eggs

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp. almond extract

1 cup coconut

1 cup drained cherry halves

1/2 cup peeled blanched almonds

2 Tbsp. flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

Beat eggs, add remaining ingredients except the almonds. Pour over partly baked shortbread then place whole almonds on top. Bake 25 minutes in 350* oven until nicely browned. Cool and ice with almond flavoring in icing sugar to which 2 Tbsp. maraschino cherry juice has been added.
