Panacho

3 cups brown sugar

1 cup milk

1 Tbsp. butter

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup nutmeats

Put the sugar and milk into saucepan and cook to a softball stage or 238*. Remove from heat. When it is lukewarm, beat until creamy. Stir in broke nutmeats. Hickory nuts, walnuts, or pecans are especially nice. Pour into battered pan and when it hardens, mark into squares.
