Lemon Loaf

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

grated rind of one lemon

1/2 cup sweet milk

1 1/2 cups flour

1 tsp. baking powder

3/4 tsp. salt

1/2 cup walnuts (chopped)

few cherries chopped

Combine shortening, sugar and egg. Add grated lemon rind and dry ingredients alternating with milk. Bake 1 hour 10 minutes at 325*. Five minutes after removing from oven, pour the juice of 1 lemon mixed with 1/3 cup sugar over otp and sides of loaf.
