Elva’s Dill Pickles

Juice for 6 qts.

 

1 qt. vinegar

2 qts. water

1 cup salt

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp. Alum

****

cucumbers

Dill

Pepper

Garlic

****

5 Gallons

“Add 2 lbs. salt to crock filled half full, soak 7-10 days – drain rinse iin clear water – add 1 1/2 gallons vinegar 1tsp. oil of cloves, 1 tsp. oil of cinnamon 1 oz soda of benzate, dissolved in 3 oz. of water – let stand 7-10 days then ad your sugar 1 lb. a day for 15 days. (15lbs.) Stir well.”
