1 lb. hamburger
4 med. carrots – diced
5 med. potatoes – cut into pieces
1 stalk celery – diced
1 cup canned peas
1 med. sized onion chopped fine
1/3 of med. sized turnip – diced
3 cups tomato juice
water to cover
salt and pepper
Method:
Place Tbsp. lard in frying pan. Add hamburger and diced onion. Fry stirring often so it browns nicely all through. Put in stew pot and add prepared vegetables, tomato juice, water and salt. Stir well; cook on medium heat for about 45 minutes, stirring often so as to not burn.
If necessary, add water occasionally. Mix 2 level Tbsp. cornstarch with water, when stew is cooked, stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken.
