4 cups flour
2 Tbsp. salt
2 egg yolks
1 cup milk, scalded
1 cup butter or shortening
2 Tbsp. yeast in 1 cup water sweetened with 1 tsp. sugar
Mix dry ingredients.
Cut in butter, as for pie crust.
Beat egg yolks, mix with cooled scalded milk and yeast.
Make well in dry ingredients an stir in wet. Add more flour if needed to make a stiff dough. Put in fridge. May be left for 48 hours.
Roll out to 1/2 ” thickness, cut into strips, and roll. Let rise about 1 hour.
Bake at 400* for 20-25 minutes.
