Raised Oven Doughnuts

In a large pan bring to a boiling point :

1 1/2 cups milk

Remove from heat and stir in:

1/3 cup shortening

1/4 cup sugar

2 tsp. salt

2 tsp. each of nutmeg and cinnamon

When this cools to lukewarm, add:

2 cakes of yeast softened in –

1/4 cup warm water

2 beaten eggs

3 3/4 cups sifted flour

 

Cover and let rise 50-60 minutes. Remove from pan to heavily floured board. Knead and pat out to 1/2 -3/4″ thickness, cut. Put on oiled baking sheet. Let rise 25 minutes. bake in 425* oven for 8-10 minutes. While they are still hot, I mix up some powdered sugar and hot water making it “purty” thick and then dribble it on top of them. It melts and runs all over them.
