1 cup boiling water
1 cup Bran Flakes
1/2 cup Shortening
1 cup Brown Sugar
1/2 cup White Sugar
2 eggs
2 cups Buttermilk
2 1/2 cups Flour
2 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 cups All-Bran
1 cup Dates
Pour boiling water over flakes and let stand. Place shortening and sugars in a bowl and cream for 2 minutes. Add eggs and buttermilk.
Sift together flour, soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the sugar mixture. Add vanilla, All-Bran, dates and soaked Bran Flakes.
Bake in a greased muffin tin for 20 minutes at 400*
*** This dough can be stored for up to several weeks by placing in a tightly covered container or jar in the refrigerator.
