6 Week Bran Muffins

2 cups boiling water

4 Tbsp. soda

-Dissolve in boiling water and cool.

Cream 1 cup shortening and 2 cups sugar

Add 4 eggs – one at a time

Add to soda and water – 1 quart buttermilk, 5 cups of flour, and 1 Tbsp. salt.

Mix in 4 cups of all bran, 2 cups bran flakes.

Add 2 cups of chopped dates and 2 cups walnuts (any nut will do).

Store in covered container in refrigerator  without stirring when used. Bake 20 min. at 370*
