This blog is dedicated to all the grandmothers who thought enough about us to save the bits and pieces of their lives for us to rediscover. A few months ago my husband and I traveled back to my “stomping grounds” and one of the activities was to help my parents go through their respective parents things. When my mom and I were going through some of her mothers things we discovered that we needed to get on the ball and start saving the bits and pieces of our own lives. Grandma G. has been gone for several years, but when we found all the things she saved, we realized that she was still with us in spirit and had left a ‘book’ of sorts, in which we could visit history again and again.
Grandma had kept birthday cards, anniversary cards, Just Because cards, birth announcements, death notices, and all kinds of newspaper clippings of her beloved family. She was also a photo hound and loved to take pictures of her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and pretty much anyone who would stand still long enough. I now wish I had been more understanding of her need to capture the moments of my life instead of wishing I could be anywhere but in front of that camera. Oddly enough, I have inherited her passion for capturing those moments. I own a camera and it is rarely far from my side.
My other grandma was also good about saving nearly everything. When my dad and I went through what was remaining of her earthly possessions, we realized she had a penchant for anything oriental, was fastidious about her love for the Lord (as was my other grandma!) and she was all about home and hearth. If you needed a meal, a bed, or even a bath, she was ready to accommodate your needs.
This site will cover all the things my grandmothers taught me. A bit about cooking, photography, taking care of home, crafting and most importantly, the memories of our lives. What to keep close to our hearts and what to let go.
